Scope

The index is compiled monthly and covers the whole population throughout the country.

Previous month, December of the previous year, corresponding month or period of previous year.

Sources of weights

Weights for the calculation of the CPI are derived from the household budget survey conducted in the previous year and relate to the whole population.

Household consumption expenditure

Household consumption expenditure refers to all financial spending for purchasing consumption goods and services.

Sample selection

The sample of geographical localities includes 2 regional centres and the capital. The outlets, of different types, location and ownership, are selected according to the scope of their assortment and turnover rate.

Method of data collection

Prices for 274 items are collected by price collectors in 350 state, co-operative and private trade outlets. The sample of outlets includes large outlets selling a wide variety of commodities, as well as small specialised ones. Price collection is conducted between the 15th and 25th day of each month.
